A journey through the Western Hemisphere
This course is designed to take the students on a journey through time from early civilizations to contemporary issues on the Western Hemisphere. Through a series of primary and secondary sources, students will be challenged to make connections to the purpose and meaning of history. Interviews, media clips, and maps will be utilized for additional supports.
Expectations and Goals
Students are expected to come to class prepared every day. Missing school means missing rich class discussions and essential information to the success of the student. Little homework is assigned, but in class participation is necessary every day. The expectation is to present in front of the class on a semi-regular basis as well as research the validity of sources weekly.
Assessments and Grades
Formal assessments are given at the end of every unit. Informal assessments are given in a variety of forms on a weekly basis. Hulstrom follows the district’s tenets for standards-based grading (SBG). Standards-based grading is a scoring practice within a broader standards-based instructional system where teachers collaborate together to understand what content students know and what they need to be able to do in order to meet or exceed state standards.
