5th GRADE CONNECTIONS NEWS!
Here's what's happening in our class:
Reading - We have started reading Black Beauty in groups. After so many chapters, we will be completing packets with comprehension questions and vocabulary. Everyone is also busy reading independently with Scholastic Reading Counts.
Writing- Everyone is writing in Writer's Workshop. We have stories about exotic creatures, research reports, poetry, and much more being created. Students will publish every third to fifth piece.
Math- The class is finishing unit 3 of the 6th grade math - test will be on April 14th. Then we will only have two units left until the end of the year!
Social Studies- They have been studying the ways of life in the original colonies.
Science- We have begun the messy exploration of chemicals and mixtures. Before the end of the year, we will do a quick unit on nutrition.
It's hard to believe that we are almost to the end- these two years have gone by very quickly! We will be visiting the middle school soon to help that transition easier for next year.
Thanks!
Mrs. Barden
