Fifth Grade Connections

5th  GRADE CONNECTIONS NEWS!  It’s hard to believe that cold weather is already here!  Here’s what’s happening in our class: Reading – We finished up our Literature Circle books.  We have started our next curriculum which is stories from the Junior Great book series. Everyone is also busy with Scholastic Reading Counts. The school has installed a new version of Scholastic Reading Counts.  You will notice the forms coming home will look different. Writing-  We are in the process of writing our state reports.  This will be a major project that will last for a few months.  So far they have completed two to three categories of their scrapbooks.  When the scrapbooks are finished, the information will be written up as a formal report and presented in a power point. Math- We are on unit 9 which covers coordinates, area, volume, and capacity. Social Studies-  Besides working on their state scrapbooks, they are also studying about North American explorers. Science-  We are still working on food webs and chains.  We have planned and built our habitats and are now studying the interactions of our animals. We’re staying busy! Mrs. Barden
