Summary Statement: Students will write informative or explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

English Language Arts Grade 5 Unit 3: Opinion (Argumentative) Writing

Summary Statement: Students will write opinion pieces on topics supporting a point of view with reasons and information in which they introduce the topic clearly, state an opinion and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are logically grouped to support the writer’s purpose.

English Language Arts Grade 5 Unit 4: Research Writing

Summary Statement: Students will conduct short research projects, then integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write informative or explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

English Language Arts Grade 5 Unit 5: Opinion Writing using Text-Based Evidence

Summary Statement: Students will read several texts on a debatable topic, form an opinion and write an opinion piece on topics supporting a point of view with reasons and information in which they introduce the topic clearly, state an opinion and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped logically to support the writer’s purpose.
