Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is April 22, 2021

Thursday, April 22, 2021 has been designated as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.  This annual event includes both boys and girls and is primarily intended for children 8-12 years of age.  Students who are slightly younger or older may also participate.  The purpose is to help youth make connections between education and a future in the workplace.

While we are encouraging parents NOT to take their student(s) to work due to COVID-19 concerns, District 12 will demonstrate support for this national event by recording attendance on this day in Infinite Campus for participating girls and boys as a field trip (Out of Building Activity) with no absence recorded.  Parents/guardians should verify their intent to have their child accompany them at work by completing and returning the attached form to the main office no later than Thursday, April 15, 2021.  A phone call to the attendance line is not necessary if parents have excused their child using the attached form.  Students should have the opportunity to make up work as with any excused absence.  In lieu of make-up work, some schools ask students who shadow their parents to provide a brief summary following the shadow experience.

General guidelines:
1. The absence to shadow a parent at work should not count against a student’s perfect attendance status.
2. Participation in extracurricular activities after school should be determined consistent with participation in other school sanctioned field trips.
3. Parents may not “substitute” another day in lieu of April 22nd and still have the absence counted as a field trip. Standard excused/unexcused guidelines would apply to situations involving a parent request to have a child shadow on a day other than April 22nd.
4. Due to COVID safety protocols and in the spirit of prevention of possible quarantines and transmissions, we are asking that staff NOT bring their children to work on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
