Every school day matters for attendance!
Attending school daily not only helps students succeed academically, but it also helps them develop and improve social skills that they'll use throughout life.
At Adams 12 Five Star Schools, attendance matters and showing up for school has a huge impact on our student's academic success. That's why we are working with state partners like the Colorado Department of Education and local partners like Adams County along with other school districts in Adams County to battle Chronic Absenteeism. Chronic Absenteeism is when a student misses 10% or more of their school days in a year, and research says 1 in 3 Colorado students are chronically absent.
Why does it matter if my kid is chronically absent?
Research shows that chronic absence can leave 3rd graders unable to read proficiently, 6th graders struggling with coursework, and high school students off track for graduation. These absences can cause consequences for students, families, and society. Families play a key role in helping students get to school every day and understand that school attendance is so important to success in school and the future workforce.
Why Student Engagement and Attendance Matters.
Stronger Economy: Good schools are key to creating a healthy and vibrant community that attracts businesses as well as new residents.
Better Schools: School quality is an important consideration for families thinking about where they will live.
Safe Communities: Better attendance and engagement in school means safe streets as youth stay in school and out of harm's way.

If Your Student Will Be Absent/Tardy On a School Day.
Please call the Hulstrom attendance line prior to 8:00 a.m. on the same day of an absence or on the first day of a multiple day absence at 720-972-5418. This automated line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for you to leave a voice message to excuse your child. You may also e-mail Tracy Hilfer at tracy.r.hilfer@adams12.org. Parents/guardians will be contacted if a student is absent and not excused. Advance notice of an excused absence is greatly appreciated. Please refer to the Adams 12 Year-at-a-Glance School Calendar and Hulstrom Important Dates documents for scheduled days off.
Long-term absences (3 or more days) must be approved by Hulstrom administration. Hulstrom policy states that make-up work will be obtained AFTER the student returns from the absence. Many classroom experiences such as videos, special presentations, lab experiments, etc. cannot be repeated and teachers are under no obligation to duplicate those experiences for the absent student. A Request for Extended Absence form must be fully completed (including the teachers box) and submitted to Hulstrom's Main Office prior to the first date of the absence. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
For further clarification, please refer to the District Policy 5020 regarding Student Attendance.
