Our Principal

Dr. Colleen Urlik has served as an administrator in our building for the past 9 years and is the Past President of the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented.  She proudly holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Gifted Education from the University of Denver.  Dr. Urlik has been in education since 2003, in which time she has gained expertise in curriculum, best instructional practices, instructional coaching, education leadership, and gifted education.  With a deep commitment to educational equity, Dr. Urlik has even co-authored a book on accelerated learning for all students!  Dr. Urlik also brings a personal understanding of gifted learners to her role as our principal as she is the mother to two gifted children.

Dr. Urlik focuses on providing a safe environment for our teachers and students to take risks and grow while advocating for high expectations, equity, access and inclusion for all!  She leads a dedicated team of highly skilled educators who are passionate about creating engaging and inclusive classrooms that cater to the diverse needs and talents of our students.  In partnership with our amazing PTA and school community, Dr. Urlik and our school staff have established Hulstrom K-8 as an environment where creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and a lifelong love for learning are nurtured within our students!

At Hulstrom K-8, we believe in the power of education to transform lives!  Our passion and Dr. Urlik's passion is educating gifted and advanced learners and we create an environment where every individual is valued, respected and inspired to reach their full potential.  Through innovative teaching methods, personalized learning approaches, and a rich array of extracurricular activities, our school aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who are equipped to face the challenges of the future with confidence!
