Our Principal
My name is Dr. Colleen Urlik, and I couldn’t be more honored to be a Hulstrom All-Star! I joined this amazing community four years ago as Assistant Principal, and this will be my second year as Principal. It is my greatest privilege to work alongside this incredible staff and community to support each individual Hulstrom All-star.
Prior to joining the Hulstrom community, I was a Classroom Teacher, a Gifted and talented Cluster Teacher, an Instructional Coach, and a Gifted and Talented Liaison. I hold several degrees, including a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from CSU, a Master’s of Art in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Literacy from CU, and Doctorate in Education in Curriculum Studies and Instruction with a specialization in Gifted Education from the University of Denver. I am also currently the President Elect for the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented and work at both the state and national level for gifted education and policy. My passion for gifted education is also highly personal. Both of my children are identified as gifted, so I live giftedness daily from all perspectives.
Each of these experiences have impressed upon me the importance of providing stimulating curriculum and instruction in content to awaken curiosity, creativity, and engagement. Equally critical is providing instruction to promote growth socially and emotionally. Growing all aspects of a child, the whole child, is the pathway to ensure each child can reach their goals and dreams. All these are our goals at Hulstrom, and I know I am working alongside the best staff and community to achieve these goals!
